Written for my son Samuel David Sickmiller, born October 26, 2011. We will always love you.
Sam's Lullaby
Lyrics and music by Mark Sickmiller
capo 1
C G F G x2
C G
I met you after midnight
F G
In a castle in the sky
C G
I held your mother's hand
F G
As all the horses ran outside
C G
To gather all the kings and queens
F G
To look into your eyes
C G
And call upon the messengers
F G
To spread this kingdom wide
C G Am C
That you are the only you
C G Am C
So close your eyes my baby blue
C G Am C
And when you dream we'll dream of you
C G Am C
And see you when the day is new
C G Am C
And hold you when the day is new
C G F G
C G
The welcome mat we carved
F G
We made especially for you
C G
We waited under summer stars
F G
And countless summer moons
C G
Seasons started changing and
F G
The trees all caught on fire
C G
Gave up all their leaves
F G
To tell the world that you've arrived
C G Am C
That you are the only you
C G Am C
So close your eyes my baby blue
C G Am C
And when you dream we'll dream of you
C G Am C
And see you when the day is new
C G Am C
And hold you when the day is new
C G F G
Am Em F G
Now that the world is yours
Am Em F G
And this castle is your home
Am Em F G
We'll keep you safe and warm
Am Em F G C
And watch you grow in love
C G Am C
Sam you are the only you
C G Am C
So close your eyes my baby blue
C G Am C
And when you dream we'll dream of you
C G Am C
And see you when the day is new
C G Am C
And hold you when the day is new
Mark and Jen,
ReplyDeleteThese are not just words but love itself. There are so many people out here that are feeling with you. I always pray that God will give me some of your pain so you can be at peace for a moment. Perhaps when you feel it He is answering my prayer. Our hearts go out to you and your family and we will continue to lift you up in prayer.
Peace and love to you.
Sue Nitz
I don't know you -- I came from Kara Uhl's blog. I just wanted to say that this is very beautiful. Prayers for you today. God bless your family today and always. As Kara noted on her blog, “Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.” —Emily Dickinson
ReplyDeleteI also came from Kara's blog. This song is beautiful, and will remain in my heart, as will you and your family.
ReplyDeleteMark,
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed to be able to put your love for Samuel in a song. It is incredibly beautiful. We continue to surround you and Jen with our thoughts and prayers.
Mark,
ReplyDeleteSam is lucky to have you, now and forever.
With love,

Mark,
ReplyDeleteYour song is beautiful. As a father, myself, it sent chills through me and tears poured out.
May peace be with you.

Mark and Jen,
ReplyDeleteEdyta and I are with you, hoping that you find comfort and peace.
I was moved by your song as we remember our dear son, Augustus, who would have been 11 this Thanksgiving.
We hope that "when the day is new" you will see Sam and hold him again. What a blessing that he has you as a father.
Mark,
ReplyDeleteI listen to this often as it is so beautiful and heartfelt. As Sam's grandpa, it touches me in a way that my words can't describe. I love you and Jen and Sam will always keep a special place in my heart!
Simply beautiful, Mark.
ReplyDeleteJust like Sam.
